FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 9, 2009
“Sailing into the sunset with the winds at our backs.”
“Christopher Columbus relied on clean energy to discover the new world. So did Ponce De Leon and Magellan. In that same spirit of discovery, modern yacht owners are converting their vessels to run on clean energy.” Says Kathy Beyer-Conrad, a spokesman for CEY “Solar Electric and Wind Turbines are now becoming the norm for powering the onboard systems of many yachts, and an increased amount of large ships are becoming available that run on solar powered electric.”
The next status symbol in the yachting world is to leave no environmental impact from your seaside missions. Self-orienting solar panels produce greater energy from the sun by pointing their silicon underbelly toward the sun as the boat changes direction and the sun makes its journey across the sky.
“Yacht owners want to go green, it’s only natural” says Eric Daniels, a yachting market analyst. “Of course you don’t want to do that if it means you have to give up all your favorite luxuries. You want your yacht to be fun, not just eco-friendly.”
And these new yachts are fun. Sporting a wealth of mod cons and hi-tech gadgetry, there are hybrid luxury yachts that mix solar, electric and liquid fuels. The fuels range from legacy fossil fuels to bio algae fuels. These new sustainable ship systems reduce and in some cases entirely remove the yachts’ pollution of the environment.
How long until we see the first successful around-the-world voyage in a clean energy yacht? How long until we see clean energy yacht races at the highest levels of that sport? However long it takes, you can be sure of one thing: Super-yachters will be included in the clean energy wave.
